ECO-CITY award in the water management category

Kraków received a prize in the Water Management category during the 7th edition of the 2020 ECO-CITY ( EKO-MIASTO) competition. Other winners included Jaworzno, Bydgoszcz, Aleksandrow Łódzki, Wrocław, Kędzierzyn-Koźle, Gdynia, Jarocin, Gdańsk and Polkowice.

Cities were recognised for activities in water management, energy efficiency, urban greenery, waste management and sustainable mobility.
 
In each category of the competition, two prizes were awarded, one for towns with a population of less than 100 thousand, the other for cities of over 100 thousand inhabitants.
 
Kraków and Jaworzno were awarded prizes in the water management category. The cities were recognized for their holistic approach and varied activities in water management and in reducing water losses in the water supply network, and Kraków additionally for increasing water retention areas and intensive education of residents.
  
For years, the Eco-Miasto Project has been recognising efforts of Polish cities to promote sustainable development. It was initiated by the French Embassy in Poland, and organized by the UNEP/GRID-Warsaw Center and Teraz Środowisko.
