The Kraków Water was honoured in the #ekoPROJEKT EU category of the #ekoLIDERZY 2016 competition of the Małopolska Region (voivodeship).

The Competition Jury recognised the completed projects Kraków water and sewage management – Stages II and III.

These projects included the upgrade and extension of the Kujawy Wastewater Treatment Plant, which makes it possible to meet elevated, strict standards of removing biogenic compounds from sewage. Water tanks Górka Narodowa East – were also built to act as a water reserve for the North Eastern part of the city. The chapter of the competition recognised that the completed projects have significantly contributed to protecting the natural environment and improve the living standards and comfort of the residents.

Environmental leaders have been recognised among Małopolska municipalities and counties (powiats) as well as their municipal companies and units whose operations are associated with environmental protection and water management. Other entrants in the competition were schools, preschools, NGOs as well as owners of Internet portals and journalists writing about environmental protection and ecology. The competition covered projects executed in 2015 and co-financed by the Voivodship Environmental Protection and Water Management Fund (WFOŚ) of Kraków, the National Environmental Protection and Water Management Fund (NFOŚ) or from the 2007-2013 Operational Programme – Infrastructure and Environment, for which the Voivodship Environmental Protection and Water Management Fund of Kraków was the Implementing Agency.
